Bernie Madoff possibly beaten in prison over money owed

The Wall Street Journal carried a story yesterday about a possible beating given to Bernie Madoff by a body building convict who believed Madoff owed him money.

One wonders if the con had invested money in Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, or they were fighting over commissary money to buy chocolate bars. At any rate, several inmates came forward and claimed to have seen Madoff’s injuries – a broken nose, fractured ribs and cuts to his face.
Prison authorities claim that Madoff did not report an assault. That does not prove he was not assaulted however. It is common for prisoners to not report incidents like this since reporting them could lead to further assaults.

Another inmate claims that he spoke to madoff in the prison library and asked for financial advice. According to the convict, Madoff told him to diversify his portfolio and to stay clear of day trading.

Looks like old Bernie is a creature of habit. He had better be careful about short-changing his new neighbors though. With 149 years left to serve, he’ll be easy to find if he screws them over like he did all of his former investors.
