Bodyguards for India’s not so rich and famous

It seems that you don’t have to be rich and famous to hire a bodyguard in India these days.

The Times of India reports that ordinary people are willing to pay Rupees 5,000 ($106.00)per day for a bodyguard. While this may not appear to be much compared to rates in the U.S. or Europe, it is very significant for India where security officers work 6 days a week (up to 12 hours a day) and earn approx. $125.00 per month.

It is almost ironic to see Executive Protection gaining in popularity in India, a country with the most law abiding and gentle people that can be found anywhere. They do however have an internal terrorist problem and the carnage in Mumbai is no doubt causing people to think more about their personal security.
