Guns seized from Maryland streets now missing from Police evidence room

P.G. County Police are in the news again. This time for missing guns. Not just any guns – guns that were seized from criminals. One gun was even involved in the shooting of a Police Officer.

It doesn’t help that officer who is at the center of the missing guns scandal is a P.G. County narcotics detective, Juan Carter. He has been suspended. An accounting error has been ruled out and investigators are looking for evidence that the guns were sold back to criminals and are now back on the street once more.

A federal probe is also under way to investigate former and current P.G. County Police Officers who were believed to be protecting members of a gambling ring. Regarding Detective Carter’s status, a P.G. County Police spokeswoman, Capt. Misty Mints, said; “there’s no way he would be in contact with the public”. She went on to say that this whole thing “makes you sick to your stomach”. Things do not sound good for Carter.

If it wasn’t such a serious matter, this whole thing could easily be mistaken for a comedy sketch from a television comedy show. “Reno 911″ comes to mind. Unfortunately it is real life though.

If I were in charge of the narcotics unit, I would order an immediate inventory of the narcotics evidence room. Needless to say, I would double check each bag of white powder. I suspect there is a high probability they mostly contain baking powder.
