Tragedy at Virginia Tech

I decided to start a blog this week as an alternative to a newsletter. Unfortunately, the sad events in Blacksburg at Virginia Tech dictated the beginnings of our security blog.

While there are still many unanswered questions, we are sure more information will be forth coming in the future. However, even at this stage some things are obvious. Firstly, we should always be aware of potential danger – just because a town appears safe and peaceful does not mean that it is immune from someone with evil intent. The perpetrator who wreaked havoc on the students and faculty terrorized everyone who crossed his path on that fateful day.
We should keep our minds open to the possibility that a terrorist can take on different forms and may not always look like the image that many people have of the typical terrorist. Schools, churches, playgrounds, shopping malls, movie theatres are all places where tragedy can strike. In these days and times, parents should be proactive in teaching their children safety awareness. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and the victims.
